Researcher biography

Francisca is a Portuguese researcher in an early stage of her career. She completed her Bachelor in Aquatic Sciences in 2014 at the University of Porto, followed by a Master’s degree in Marine Biology in 2016 at the University of Algarve in Portugal. Since she started her academic life, Ecotoxicology was always her main field of interest among the environmental sciences. She is focused in the study of the effects of stressors across all levels of biological organisation, from the molecular to whole communities and ecosystems. She worked on the effects of psychotropic and anticancer drugs to marine organisms, and most recently on microplastics effects. At the moment, she is doing a joint PhD programme with The University of Exeter to investigate the risks of the dietary exposure to microplastics and associated chemicals.
