QAEHS in Focus shines the spotlight on QAEHS staff and students to showcase the expertise and talent within our Centre
Why did you choose QAEHS to study with?
I came across an article featuring some QAEHS people during my master’s degree a couple of years ago. At that time, I was not sure about pursuing a PhD but, I was very interested in their research focus and facilities. Eventually when I decided to apply for a PhD, QAEHS came to my mind.
What is your research about?
My research focuses on developing methods to detect halogenated polymers using hyphenated analytical technologies.
How do QAEHS academics assist with the development of your research?
I come from a marine biology background, with limited experience in analytical techniques and high-end instrumentation. I received a lot of guidance from my supervisors and the team on laboratory techniques, and use of the instruments essential for my research. They are always patient and generous with their time creating a very supportive environment.
What has been the best advice you have received about coping with the move to Brisbane?
The best advice I received was to give myself time to adapt to the people, the culture and the environment.
