SETAC Townsville well attended by QAEHS

SETAC Townsville 2023 conference attendeesSeveral QAEHS researchers attended the recent Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) Australasia conference in Townsville. Attendees included Profs Kevin Thomas and Jochen Mueller, A/Prof Sarit Kaserzon, Dr Cassie Rauert, Dr Veronika Schacht, Dr Elvis Okoffo, Dr Pradeep Dewapriya, Dr Sandra Nilsson, Dr Sara Ghorbani Gorji and Dr Rose Nguyen as well as PhD students Stacey O’Brien, Laura Puente, Simran Kaur, Coral Jeffries, Gabriel De la Torre, Tania Toapanta, Carly Beggs, Garth Campbell, Ken Tang and Carla Alongi.

Coral Jeffries award winPhD student Coral Jeffries won the Best Student Oral Presentation in Environmental Chemistry for her presentation Estimating total dietary exposure to nano- and microplastics. Coral stated, “I thoroughly enjoyed the SETAC conference. It was great to see how my research fits in with the bigger picture and what else is being done in the microplastics area. Winning the award for best student oral presentation in environmental chemistry was the icing on the cake. “

PhD student Gabriel commented: "Attending SETAC Australasia was a fantastic opportunity to network with national and international scientists from my field, get feedback on my current research, share experiences, and have a lot of fun!" Student Ken Tang remarked: “I would like to thank QAEHS for supporting me in attending SETAC 2023. It is a great opportunity to meet researchers from different fields and have a peek at what they are doing. The comments from others also provide sparks for my project and potential future collaborations.” PhD student Simran Kaur added: "I wanted to express my heartfelt gratitude to the QAEHS for providing me with the incredible opportunity to attend the SETAC Australasia 2023 Conference in Townsville. The conference was an enriching experience, filled with insightful sessions, networking opportunities, and the chance to learn from experts in the field. This event not only expanded my knowledge but also allowed me to connect with like-minded individuals who share a passion for environmental health.
