Assessing sources, exposure and fate of UV filters in aquatic environments

Elissa O’Malley is a PhD student at QAEHS and will be presenting her mid-candidature review. Her PhD topic is investigating UV filter compounds which are frequently used in sunscreens and cosmetics. These compounds have received increased attention of late due to their potential harm when released into the aquatic environment, particularly with regards to sensitive ecosystems such as coral reefs.
