Over the past 5 years, I have partnered with QAEHS on the European Union project SOLUTIONS, which concluded in September 2018. This work was conducted together with Prof Beate Escher (also QAEHS Honorary). Our work as part of the SOLUTIONS project focused on the validation and application of in vitro bioassays for water quality monitoring. This included establishing a comprehensive bioassay test battery, demonstrating the suitability of bioassays for water quality monitoring using several case studies and showing that common extraction techniques can capture most active chemicals.

The central theme of my research is to understand the fate and effect of chemicals in the aquatic environment and engineered systems. Much of my recent work has focused on the complementary application of bioassays and chemical analysis to assess the chemical burden in water.
