Indigenous Environmental Health Workshop - brief report

4 Jul 2017

On May 23 2017, Queensland Alliance for Environmental Health Sciences (QAEHS) Epidemiology theme leader, Professor Michele Haynes, hosted a workshop for theme leaders and Queensland Health staff, centred on the theme of Indigenous Environmental Health at the UQ Institute for Social Science Research.

The half-day event explored mutual areas of research interest between the University of Queensland, Queensland Health and experts from a range of fields including Epidemiology and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health. These included researchers and representatives from Queensland Health, Institute for Social Science Research, Aboriginal Environments Research Centre, Poche Centre for Indigenous Health and Institute for Urban Indigenous Health.

Attendees from each of these centres gave short presentations regarding their work in the area of Epidemiology and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health. This was followed by fruitful round table discussions around future directions that QAEHS may take, working towards improving Indigenous environmental health.
