The National Wastewater Drug Monitoring Program (NWDMP) is an ongoing study which uses wastewater based epidemiology to estimate the consumption of several licit and illicit drugs, including tobacco, alcohol, methylamphetamine, cocaine and MDMA (ecstasy). Funded by the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC), the study analyses wastewater from around 50 sites located within state capitals and regional areas across Australia. So far, drug consumption rates from samples collected during weeks of August, October and December 2016, as well as February, April, June, August, October and December 2017 are reported. Data contained in this report equates to coverage of more than 50% of Australia’s population. Overall, a total of nine reports will be published during the three-year study.
