QAEHS PhD student, Tobias Hulleman, attended the 20th Annual Workshop On Emerging High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry (HRMS) And LC-MS/MS Applications In Environmental Analysis And Food Safety in Barcelona in October. Tobias was also awarded Second place for the Student Poster Prize for his work on Machine learning for predicting environmental mobility based on retention behaviour.
Tobias reported that: “It was really nice to meet some of the Spanish researchers in our field. There is a lot of very similar research being done regarding WBE and non-target analysis and it was very interesting to see their approaches, applications and findings in their territories. I especially liked Romà Tauler’s talk on using chemometrics for non-target analysis. There were also some researchers from Canada, Florida, California, the UK and Switzerland who presented on AMR, NTA and WBE. I was able to talk to most of them during the breaks and poster sessions and talk about possible projects of interest. The students posters quality were great, with fruitful discussions.”
The workshop aims to evaluate practical aspects of the usefulness of high resolution mass spectrometry and tandem mass spectrometric techniques for screening and quantitation of organic contaminants in the environmental and food samples.
