Occurrence of Per- and Poly Fluorinated Substances (PFAS) in Food Contact Materials (FCM) in Australia, and their environmental impact.  PFAS is a class of chemicals made up of a fluorinated alkyl chain with amphiphilic properties and due to these properties they have many uses in industries. Due to these uses, they are well known to be present in many consumer products. One of the most notable product types that has been the focus of recent studies are Food Contact Materials (FCMs). Whilst this focus is welcome as it highlights a potential hazard to the general population there are some notable gaps in the literature and research. In addition to these gaps other questions arise as to the leaching from the FCMs to Food, Compost, FOGO, and beyond. This project aims to answer some of these questions or concerns to provide recommendations to regulations and legislation to better reflect the realities of PFAS exposure via FCMs and its flow on contamination.
