This project aims to utilise metabolomics investigation methods to identify and quantify the levels of small molecules (carbohydrates, amino acids, and lipids) within archived serum samples collected over the past decade from Airservices Australia firefighting employees. Utilising statistical models, these metabolites will be correlated with previously measured polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) that, alongside recorded clinical variables, will provide insights into the biological impact of PFAS, offering a suite of potential biomarkers for aiding in policy and risk assessment formation.
