Researcher biography
Tania is an early career Ecuadorian scientist who obtained her Bachelor in Advanced Science (Major in Chemistry and Marine Science) in 2020 at the University of Queensland. She obtained a first class Honours with her project about weathering of microplastics and its effect on microplastic quantification method with Pyr-GCMS at QAEHS. She continued working as a research assistant and recently started a PhD programme with QAEHS in October 2020. She is interested in the study of weathering of microplastics in the marine environment, principally how various weathering environmental stressors are affecting plastic virgin properties. With this project she is hoping to further understand weathering factors and how much they can affect microplastic lifespan.
