Researcher biography
Marta completed her Bachelor's degree in Chemistry at the University of Oviedo (Spain) in 2020, where she developed an interest in organic chemistry. In 2021, she earned her Master’s degree in Oceanography at the University of Cádiz (Spain), with a thesis focused on the chemical characterization of dissolved organic matter in the Guadalquivir Estuary.
In 2022, she joined the Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA) in Girona, Spain, as a specialist technician in the Mass Spectrometry Unit. There, she gained experience in developing analytical methodologies for the determination of contaminants in wastewater and raw water samples using GC-MS. She also supported researchers working on the targeted analysis of organic compounds, such as antibiotics, drugs, and endocrine disruptors, in aqueous samples using LC-MS.
She began her PhD at QAEHS in January 2025, as part of the Minderoo project. Her research focuses on plastic additives, with the aim of understanding the mechanisms through which they cross the blood-brain barrier.
