Developing a Model for National Wastewater Antimicrobial Resistance and Antimicrobial use Surveillance

National Health and Medical Research Council

The aim of this project is to develop a viable model for ongoing monitoring of antimicrobial use and resistance by combining the existing resources available with the testing of wastewater. This will involve calculations based on information from multiple large data sources. Antimicrobial resistance is classified by the World Health Organisation as a global health and development threat with significant economic costs. The first step to addressing this growing concern is to develop an accurate measurement of prevalence in the community.
