QAEHS researchers, Professor Kevin Thomas, Dr Cassie Rauert and Dr Elvis Okoffo attended the recent International Conference on Microplastics, Nanoplastics and Human Health held at the University College Dublin in Ireland.
Prof Thomas gave a plenary lecture on Advancements and Challenges in Assessing Human Exposure to Nanoplastics and Microplastics that was well received by the audience.
Dr Okoffo commented: “That the conference provided a unique platform to engage with leading experts and emerging researchers in the field, explore the latest research developments, and discuss the significant challenges and opportunities related to microplastics and nanoplastics research. The sessions on the potential health impacts and remediation strategies were particularly insightful, as they closely align with my ongoing research.
The diverse range of presentations, including those on cutting-edge analytical techniques and the latest findings on human and environmental exposure to these pollutants, was impressive. I was particularly engaged by Dr. Junli Xu's workshop on fundamentals of O-PTIR: A Breakthrough in Spectroscopy and data analysis, which provided valuable hands-on experience.
One of the highlights for me was the poster sessions, where I had the opportunity to engage in-depth with individual research projects and network with passionate scientists. This opened doors for potential collaborations that will undoubtedly contribute to advancing our work at QAEHS.”
