QAEHS in Focus shines the spotlight on QAEHS staff and students to showcase the expertise and talent within our Centre
How long have you worked at QAEHS?
3.5 years with a 1 year break in the middle.
How do you explain your job to people?
Picture a large empty room with 300,000 books piled in the middle. My job is to turn that into a working library that people can access. Now replace the books with human and environmental samples and you have the specimen bank.
What is your favourite thing about working at QAEHS?
The love of learning and the value on education. And, of course, the people!
What is something you learned in the last week?
Some birds raise their young through brood parasitism – one bird species lays their eggs in another’s nest and tricks the host into raising the hatchlings.
What has been your career path that led to your current position at QAEHS?
A bit convoluted - Exercise Scientist > English Teacher in Japan > Primary School Teacher > Business Development Manager > QAEHS – Covid Sample Logistics Manager > Indigenous Health Researcher > QAEHS - AESB manager.
What research are you working on now?
Mostly setting up the AESB but also supporting the PFAS in livestock project.
