QAEHS in Focus shines the spotlight on QAEHS staff and students to showcase the expertise and talent within our Centre.
Why did you choose QAEHS to study with?
I was studying both molecular biology and analytical chemistry for my master's degree in China, and I found that I was more interested in the analysis of environmental pollutants. At QAEHS, I can encounter a cutting-edge platform for environmental chemistry, presenting me with an excellent opportunity to conduct significant research in this field so I applied to do my PhD here.
What is your research about?
My research studies how the improper and excessive use of antimicrobial agents exacerbates the development and dissemination of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), which has become a global environmental challenge. My research is about using wastewater-based epidemiology to estimate the population's antimicrobial use and to identify its spatial and temporal variation, providing useful information to combat AMR in Australia.
How do QAEHS academics assist with the development of your research?
QAEHS is like a big, welcoming family. Everyone really looks out for each other, especially the newbies, making sure they find their feet and feel right at home. And it’s super easy to see what everyone's up to and dive into chats for tips or advice on your projects. It’s this kind of team vibe that makes working here not just fun but also super productive for your research.
What is the best thing about living in Brisbane?
One of the most remarkable things about living in Brisbane is undoubtedly its weather and climate. Brisbane boasts a glorious subtropical climate, offering warm, sunny days most of the year, which is precisely why I adore this city.
What is your favourite movie?
The Sixth Sense. I'm a horror movie enthusiast, and this film is not just horrifying; it also conveys the warmth of love and family.
