QAEHS HDR students, Dhaya Nadarajan, Nicole Schroeter and Tobias Hulleman all recently attended the 8th Queensland Mass Spectrometry Symposium (QMSS2026). The sold-out event which connects the Queensland mass spectrometry user base and those interested in this technology across a diverse range of disciplines, is an annual symposium for interdisciplinary scientific exchange and networking.
Over the two-day event, over 150 participants were treated to 36 oral presentations and 27 poster presentations with topics covering glycomics, metabolomics, proteomics, native mass spectrometry, open profiling, small molecules and a range of other topics where mass spectrometry was either used or further developed.

Since its inception in 2016, QMSS has become well known for networking, high quality presentations and fierce competition for its awards targeted at students and early career researchers. This year was no exception and QAEHS are pleased to announce the following awards won by QAEHS students:
- Oral Presentation Student Category 2nd Place Tied Winner - Dhaya Nadarajan, Detection of mitragynine (Kratom) in Australian wastewater: Artefacts, dumping, or human consumption?
