QAEHS in Focus shines the spotlight on QAEHS staff and students to showcase the expertise and talent within our Centre.
Why did you choose QAEHS to study with?
The first thing that caught my attention was the broad research topics that we have here at QAEHS, that and the readily available resources here are what made me choose QAEHS to pursue my studies.
What is your research about?
Microplastics are everywhere! Did you know that breast milk storage bags and bottles are potential sources for micro and nanoplastics to enter your infant’s food? However, we are unsure about the amount of micro and nanoplastics infants are exposed to originating from them. My work focuses on assessing infant exposure to micro and nanoplastics, in particular, from storage containers, infant formula and breast milk, through a novel method using pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.
How do QAEHS academics assist with the development of your research?
My supervisors are a key part of supporting and guiding me with my research project. Everyone here at QAEHS is willing to help and, because of their different backgrounds, it’s easy to get advice on almost any topic whenever we might need it.
What is the best thing about living in Brisbane?
The relaxed vibe, it’s easy to get used to living here.
What is your favourite movie?
I’m not great at picking only one favourite but I’ve watched Shrek 2 more times than I can count.
Random fact you would like to share about yourself.
I like weird/unique earrings.
