QAEHS in Focus shines the spotlight on QAEHS staff and students to showcase the expertise and talent within our Centre.

How long have you worked at QAEHS?

I have been working at QAEHS since January 2022, so almost 4.5 years.

How do you explain your job to people?

I usually say that I work in an environmental health research centre. If someone is interested, I go on to explain that my role involves supporting researchers and project teams in collecting reliable environmental data to better understand contaminants and their impacts on human health and the environment.

What is your favourite thing about working at QAEHS?

My favourite thing about working at QAEHS is being part of an inclusive, supportive, and collaborative team where people respect and genuinely support one another. I also appreciate the opportunity to contribute to meaningful environmental health research that has real-world impact.

What is something you learned in the last week?

A pacemaker helps regulate an irregular and abnormally slow heartbeat (arrhythmia). It is generally not used to treat fast heart rate (tachycardia).

What has been your career path that led to your current position at QAEHS?

My career path began with a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, which gave me a strong foundation in wastewater treatment and pollution control. I then completed my PhD and worked as a research engineer focused on coal beneficiation. After a family break, I worked as a laboratory analyst, where I performed routine chemical testing and supported laboratory quality systems. These experiences helped me develop strong technical, problem-solving, and project coordination skills, which naturally led me to my current position at QAEHS.

What is your favourite movie?

I usually enjoy slower-paced movies with simple stories, like The Road Home (1999). What I love most are beautiful visuals, bright colours, and stories that capture warmth and human connection. Those kinds of movies always stay with me longer than action-packed ones.

Random fact you would like to share about yourself.

I’ve been a big sports fan since I was young and enjoy watching almost any game, even though I don’t really play any sports myself.
