QAEHS in Focus shines the spotlight on QAEHS staff and students to showcase the expertise and talent within our Centre.
How long have you worked at QAEHS?
I have worked at QAEHS for two years, from April 2024.
How do you explain your job to people?
I usually describe my role as working in environmental exposure science, where I help study how chemicals in our environment—such as those found in air and dust—may impact human health. My work involves supporting sampling campaigns and laboratory preparation, contributing to research that connects environmental data with health risk assessment.
What is your favourite thing about working at QAEHS?
What I enjoy most about working at QAEHS is the strong connection between research and real-world impact. The work is highly interdisciplinary, and it is rewarding to be part of a team that aims to better understand environmental exposures and improve public health outcomes.
What is something you learned in the last week?
Recently, I have been learning more about quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC), particularly in relation to data integrity in environmental sampling and analysis. This includes understanding how factors such as sample handling, preparation consistency, and documentation practices can directly influence the reliability and traceability of data. It has given me a deeper appreciation of how rigorous QA/QC processes underpin credible scientific outcomes and ensure that results are both reproducible and meaningful.
What has been your career path that led to your current position at QAEHS?
My academic background is in pharmacology and pharmaceutical science, where I developed a strong interest in how external substances interact with the human body. Over time, I became increasingly interested in environmental factors that influence health, which led me to transition into exposure science. My role at QAEHS has allowed me to gain hands-on experience in this field, and I aim to further develop my expertise at the intersection of environmental science and human health.
What is your favourite movie?
One of my favourite movies is Inside Out, as I find it a thoughtful and creative exploration of human emotions and how they shape our experiences.
Random fact you would like to share about yourself.
I usually train several times a week and really enjoy the process of building discipline over time. Staying active also means I get to enjoy food a bit more, which is definitely a bonus.
